Apartment Residents Plan Flashlight Walk

Share

Residents of a central Anaheim neighborhood are expected to walk en masse tonight toting flashlights and spreading the word that crime and gang problems won’t be tolerated.

The Neighborhood Flashlight Walk will be in the area of Diamond and Pearl streets and Carleton Avenue, near West Street and Lincoln Avenue, starting at 8 p.m.

The neighborhood has had problems with drug dealing, burglaries, vandalism and other crime, as well as gang activity, said Officer Dave Wiggins, a member of Anaheim’s community policing team.

Residents have already held half a dozen nighttime walks, in which problems, including graffiti and deteriorated buildings, are pointed out to city officials.

The walks have resulted in neighbors becoming friends and working together to improve their community, Wiggins said.
