AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Chrysler Corp. said Friday that it plans to boost North American car and truck production 11% in the third quarter, which would make it the lone U.S. auto maker to increase output from year-earlier levels.
Chrysler’s total production of pickup trucks, minivans, sport-utility vehicles and passenger cars in North America is expected to rise to 614,600 from 552,400 last year.
In the first estimate of its July-to-September factory plans, the nation’s third-largest auto maker said passenger car output will increase 54% to 207,600 from a weak year-earlier quarter.
Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. said earlier that they plan to cut third-quarter production.
