Mental Health
The vote by three members of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to merge behavioral health with welfare should send an alarming message to citizens. The seriously mentally ill need medical and lifetime support that far exceeds that of the average welfare recipient. Their treatment and care are likely to be submerged by different pressures and goals.
The board’s decision is shameful and should be reconsidered. Mental health does not belong in a huge agency whose mission is to get people to work and off welfare.
