Execs Ante Up

Share

Who says only mayors can make friendly wagers in sporting contests? At the annual meeting of the North American Network Operator’s Group, two high-tech execs stood up for their hometown ice hockey teams, which are vying for the Stanley Cup.

Philip Lawlor, president and CEO of Detroit-based Apex Global Internet Services, bet one free year of Internet access that the Detroit Red Wings will win the best-of-seven series. Doug Humphrey, president and CEO of Laurel, Md.-based SkyCache Inc., put up one free year of high-speed satellite data-delivery service on behalf of the Washington Capitals. Each exec also placed 20 mugs and T-shirts--festooned with corporate logos--in the pot, which will go to the winning company. Detroit leads the series, 3-0.
