Share

George Edwin Howe, a retired Lockheed Aircraft engineer who lived in Ventura for 20 years, died Friday after a long illness. He was 85.

Howe was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Custer, Ohio, and received his bachelor of science degree from Bowling Green University and his engineering degree from Toledo University, both in Ohio.

He met the woman who became his wife, Josephine, on a blind date in Toledo, and the two were married in 1937--the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a few months ago.

After graduating from college, George Howe got a job at Willamette Iron and Steel in Oregon, where he designed and patented servo mechanisms, used in automatic pilot devices.

In 1968, he worked as an engineer at Lockheed Aircraft in Pacific Palisades. When he retired in 1978, the couple, who had no children, moved to Ventura.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine.

Services are being arranged by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
