Maybe What State Needs Is Less Flash

Re “Generation Zzzzzz” (June 10): Is Gray Davis supposed to enter a room tap dancing and telling jokes?
Did you hear the one about the last time California elected someone from show biz back in 1966? We elected Ronald Reagan, who as governor decided to raise taxes to the highest in California history at that time, put a freeze on state hiring and said planting trees was a waste of money. Entertaining, huh?
Maybe someone like Davis, with more than 20 years’ experience in government, will make serious and important decisions for California that will improve our state. It is a serious job and should be regarded as such. It will take a man with character and diligence to succeed. We have plenty of spectacles to see here in California; the governors’ race shouldn’t be one of them.
