Mural Artist Sought for Construction Site

Share

Artists are invited to submit proposals for a temporary mural to be displayed at the construction site of the downtown Century 10 movie theater.

The mural will be painted on an 8-by-276-foot stretch of plywood, and attached to a temporary fence that runs along Main Street, between Chestnut and California streets, said Alice Atkinson of the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

The artist selected will receive $2,000 donated by the theater’s developer, Victor Georgino, to design and execute the project. A panel, including members of the city’s Public Art Commission, will make the final selection. The artist will have from July 8 through the city’s July 25 ArtWalk to complete the project.

The mural will remain until November, when the theater is scheduled to open.

Atkinson said proposals will be accepted by the Ventura Public Art Program, Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli St., Room 226, through July 1. For details, call 658-4760.
