Leo Buscaglia

Share

One of the great people of America has died. I knew Leo Buscaglia (obituary, June 13) from reading all his books, listening to a dozen lectures and interviewing him on my “Teen Talk” program. His life was the personification of his writings, his classes and his public lectures, for he was love incarnate.

He gave of himself selflessly; he wrote passionately; and his hugs--well, those hugs were like no others I’ve ever had.

I saw him last a few months ago at a concert at the L.A. Philharmonic. He was on his way, once again, to Asia and invited me to call him when he returned in February. I regret that I never did. I guess I’ll simply have to wait for my next hug in heaven. They don’t send men like him to any other place.
