Scores May Have Died in Attack
Senegalese troops bombarded the town of Ingore in the northern part of this African nation, and relief workers said as many as 100 people may have been killed, Portugal’s Antenna One radio said. The Dakar government has sent forces to back the elected government of President Joao Bernardo Vieira as it battles a military revolt. Government troops, backed by soldiers from neighboring Senegal and Guinea, were trying to drive the rebels out of their remaining bastions. Meanwhile, the rebels said they had taken seven French nationals hostage, but French authorities denied the claim.
