Herschensohn on India, Pakistan

Share

Re “Kashmir Could Ignite a Cataclysm,” Commentary, June 15:

I was amazed at the blatant anti-Muslim sentiment Bruce Herschensohn displayed. He did not mention at all the root cause of the Kashmir problem and the various U.N. resolutions regarding the issue. Rather, Herschensohn named one Muslim country after another in an attempt to show how they all are or will rally behind Pakistan in case of a war. This is far from the truth. Many of the Middle Eastern countries have remained neutral about this matter.

When Pakistan and India fought the three wars, which one of the Muslim countries that he mentioned came to the help of Pakistan? None.

The only Muslim nations Herschensohn failed to mention were the poor Bangladeshis, the starving African Muslim countries and the recently broke Malaysians and Indonesians. Perhaps Herschensohn believes that these poor Muslims will resort to selling their organs to fund Pakistan’s nuclear ambitions.

Herschensohn’s assumption that China, Pakistan and Islamic fundamentalists will form an alliance against the U.S. and India is misleading and dangerous.

China’s cooperation enabled us to end the Cold War with Russia peacefully a decade ago. China continued its effort to help us stabilize crises in the Korean Peninsula and other Asian countries. China responded to our request favorably by not devaluating its currency to avoid further worsening of the Asian economy.

If Herschensohn doesn’t like China that is his own preference, but at least he should not count China as our enemy.
