Council to Begin Soliciting Bids for City Attorney

South Pasadena City Manager Sean Joyce said Monday that the city has decided to seek bids from law firms interested in serving as city attorney.

For the last two years, the Los Angeles law firm of Beltran, Leal & Medina has represented the city on an interim basis.

The Beltran firm was selected by the City Council after the city attorney quit two years ago in the middle of a crisis at City Hall.

“We are going to solicit for a permanent city attorney. Beltran, Leal & Medina came to us in time of transition,” Joyce said. “We have reached a desirable level of stability and as was previously agreed upon by City Council and Beltran, Leal & Medina we’ll now solicit proposals for permanent law firm.”

Joyce said he expects the Beltran firm to be among those to apply.

The City Council is expected to make a decision within two months.
