A leadership program that helps people become involved with Ventura County issues ranging from education to economic development is accepting applications for a nine-month-long class.
The United Way-sponsored Ventura County Leadership Academy strives to create an environment in which residents learn to enhance the county’s quality of life, said Harry Lee, the academy’s executive director.
The academy is seeking a diverse group of participants for the course, which starts Sept. 24, Lee said.
After a three-day opening session, students will attend monthly daylong focus sessions on topics such as agriculture, government, infrastructure, health issues, nonprofit groups, volunteerism and public safety.
A full-day session at the state Capitol will address legislative topics, and a daylong tour of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta will focus on water issues affecting Southern California.
The course will conclude with a group project and graduation next May, Lee said.
Applications will be accepted through July 20. A reduced tuition fee will be offered to those who apply by June 30. For more information, call Lee at 485-6288, Ext. 260.
