Illegal Arms Denied; Sanctions Protested

Iraq’s ruling party newspaper insisted that Baghdad has no more illegal weapons to disclose, and the country’s U.N. ambassador warned of a new crisis if the Security Council does not move to end sanctions soon. The 15-member council decided Wednesday to maintain sanctions after the chief U.N. weapons inspector, Richard Butler, said tests by a U.S. Army laboratory left “no doubt” that Iraq had put deadly VX nerve gas in missile warheads, despite Baghdad’s denials.
