U.N. Orders Israel to Pay Bomb Damages
The U.N. General Assembly on Friday called on Israel to pay $2.4 million for damage from its shelling of a U.N. base in southern Lebanon two years ago.
About 100 Lebanese civilians were killed in the shelling of the U.N. base at Qana on April 18, 1996.
An Israeli government official, who declined to be identified, called the assembly’s decision “ridiculous.”
The vote on the General Assembly resolution, dealing with funding of the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon for the coming year, was 109 to 2, with no abstentions.
The United States and Israel cast the negative votes.
