From Times Wire Reports

Hundreds of people lined up before dawn for a sale at a former insane asylum, hoping to snatch up items including a fever-inducing chamber once used to treat syphilis and arthritis, as well as leather wrist and leg restraints. “A lot of this stuff is from the dark ages,” said Barbara Schmuckal. The Traverse City asylum closed in 1989. Proceeds from the sale go to a nonprofit corporation seeking new uses for the buildings and grounds.
