MTA Found Liable in Sex Harassment Case

A Los Angeles jury has found the Metropolitan Transit Authority liable in a same-sex harassment case involving Thousand Oaks resident Kenneth Barbara.
The authority on Friday was ordered to pay Barbara $77,150 for emotional distress and $61,300 for economic damages.
Barbara had charged the MTA with allowing a male co-worker to harass him and later retaliate against him for filing a complaint.
While it found Barbara’s former co-worker and the MTA liable for the harassment, the jury did not find the authority liable for other serious charges, including Barbara’s contention that the agency punished him for speaking out about sexual harassment and safety problems.
MTA spokesman Ed Scannell said the authority is considering an appeal.
