Leadership Group Honors Oxnard Man

The California Assn. of Leadership Programs presented its Distinguished Leadership Award to David Keith of Oxnard during its annual conference in Long Beach.

Keith, a community affairs manager with the Oxnard Police Department, was recognized “for his contributions toward enhancing quality of life” and his involvement in creating and managing “innovative public/private partnerships that improve crime prevention and public safety.” He is a graduate of the Ventura County Leadership Academy.

Also at the conference, Harry Lee of Camarillo was elected treasurer for the coming year. Lee is a member of the association’s board of directors and serves as executive director for the Ventura County Leadership Academy.

The academy was formed in 1994 as a program of the United Way of Ventura County to develop leaders who will enhance the quality of life in the county.

Charitable Fund Presents $850 in Grants

* The Andy Fox Charitable Community Fund has announced recipients of its grant program.

Thousand Oaks High School Band received $500 to help pay for its 1998 Rose Parade participation.

DARE received $200 to support its driver education program.

Conejo Valley Animal Shelter received $150.

Fox is a Thousand Oaks city councilman. His fund has been administered since 1997 by the Ventura County Community Foundation.

Farmers Fund Awards $750 Scholarship

* Administrators of the Ventura County Agricultural Scholarship Fund selected Maribel Reyes, a graduating senior at Hueneme High School, to receive its first scholarship.

Reyes, who plans to major in biology at UC Santa Barbara, will receive a $750 award.

The fund was started in December 1997 by local farmers and is administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation. It’s goal is to help the daughters and sons of agricultural workers in Ventura County continue their higher education.
