Lorillard Tobacco Co. officials suggested in confidential documents that its customers smoked because they were addicted to nicotine and that high school students made up the core of its customer base, a Greensboro, N.C., newspaper reported. The documents, among the 33 million released this year as part of the Minnesota tobacco trial, also show that Greensboro-based Lorillard studied ways to elevate nicotine delivery and considered developing a brand aimed at image-conscious teens. The company makes Newport, Kent and True cigarettes.
