Child-Care Class to Train Baby Sitters

If you’re looking for a knowledgeable local baby-sitter, you’ll have a better chance of finding one this weekend.

Tonight, nearly 100 Valley young people will take a Super Sitter child-care class at Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

The students will learn how to treat a minor burn or bloody nose, as well as proper diapering techniques and other skills.

Fire and police department representatives will tell the students how to handle potentially dangerous situations, such as when a stranger comes to the door.

“Kids are put into an adult role where they have to make adult decisions,” said Jeanette Abundis, director of emergency services at the hospital. “The class is designed to help baby sitters build confidence to make those important decisions.”

The Super Sitter class is held three or four times a year. More young people signed up for tonight’s session, however, than in the program’s 11-year history.

Organizers said there is still room for last minute sign-ups.

The Super Sitters class runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Main Auditorium, Glendale Adventist Medical Center, 1509 Wilson Terrace. The fee is $10 per student. Registration required. Call (818) 409-8100.
