Youth Club Donation

Re: “Youth Club Receives 2nd Large Donation,” Feb. 17.

We have, on a number of occasions, read about the positive impacts Haas Automation has made in the community in terms of strengthening the economy and adding jobs to the area. The Greater Oxnard Economic Development Corp. continues to lure outstanding business to the city.

It was with great pleasure, however, that we read about the latest contribution Haas has made to the area.

The company’s very generous donation of $300,000 to the Martin V. Smith Youth Center capital campaign and the commitment to support a mentoring program are breathtaking examples of business doing the right thing. The money and Boys & Girls Club facility are certainly important, but without the added benefit of allowing kids to experience successful programs, these “assets” are less viable.

This is truly one of the most tremendous examples of community responsiveness we have ever seen. It’s a role model for community involvement and certainly a fine example for our youth. Our thanks to this company.
