Loren Grey, the 83-year-old son of Western author Zane Grey, was surrounded by a crowd Wednesday at the Fred Hall Fishing Tackle & Boat Show at the Long Beach Convention Center.

He signed autographs and remembered what it was like growing up with his famous father, a passionate fisherman who wrote such books as “Riders of the Purple Sage.”

On display at the Zane Grey exhibit were two unpublished manuscripts, “Log of the Gladiator,” and “Tales of the Coral Reef.”

There was also the bill of a 2,000-pound black marlin that the writer almost reeled in but later was caught by another fisherman on the same boat.

Loren Grey, also an avid fisherman and author, has been president of Zane Grey Inc., the author’s licensing agency, for more than 20 years.
