Restaurateurs Honored for Community Service

A couple who have run a restaurant for more than 30 years were honored Wednesday by the district attorney’s office for their community service.

Connie and Vincent Sotelo Jr., owners of Los Cinco Puntos Deli at 3300 Cesar Chavez Avenue, were given a decorative scroll by Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti during a downtown ceremony for “outstanding service to the community.”

“This couple is a fixture in East Los Angeles and they were honored because, by golly, they care,” said Victoria Pipkin, a spokeswoman for Garcetti.

The restaurant, which opened in 1967, is quick to donate food to local church functions, she said. “If some kid comes in and he’s a little short of money, Connie and Vincent will feed them anyway.”
