YORKTOWN, Va. — A teacher has been charged with assault and battery for allegedly clipping a 9-year-old girl’s fingernails without permission from the student’s parents.
Mount Vernon Elementary School teacher Carol Comstock is accused of cutting the girl’s fingernails Friday because she thought they “were inappropriate in the classroom,” said Valerie Breneisen, York County’s assistant superintendent for instruction. A sheriff’s officer said the girl’s mother complained.
The school system had not taken any disciplinary action against the teacher, a spokeswoman said.
