Health issues facing senior citizens will be addressed by specialists at a symposium at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel on Friday.

The symposium, sponsored by Cal State Northridge Center for Sports Medicine and the Encino-Tarzana Medical Center, will include information on such topics as arthritis, hypertension, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

Other topics include memory loss, the aging athlete and the prevention of falls, said Steven F. Loy, program director for the symposium.

The symposium is called “Living Well Into the Golden Years.”

“The topics are timely and will be presented on a level that is clearly understandable to the lay population. But up-to-date clinical information that the clinical population can profit from will also be provided,” said Loy, who is also director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory in CSUN’s kinesiology department.

Marvin Moser, a clinical professor of medicine at Yale University’s School of Medicine, will present the morning keynote address at 8 a.m.

The keynote speaker for the afternoon session, which begins at 12:50 p.m., is William J. Evans, director of the nutrition, metabolism and exercise program of the department of geriatrics at the University of Arkansas.

The symposium is open to the public. Late registration and check-in begins at 7 a.m.

Preregistration costs, which include lunch, are $35 for students and non-health care professionals, $20 for people 60 and older, $75 for physicians and $40 for other health-care professionals. An additional fee of $5 will be charged for late registration.
