Marvin A. Davis; Master Planner for Disneyland

Marvin A. Davis, 87, Emmy-winning art director and theme park planner for Disney. After several years as an art director for 20th Century Fox, Davis joined Walt Disney Imagineering in 1953. He became the master planner for Disneyland, which opened in 1955, and was particularly responsible for the design of the park’s Main Street, Sleeping Beauty Castle and Haunted Mansion. Davis also served as project designer for the concept of Walt Disney World, which opened in 1973 in Florida. He earned his Emmy in 1964 for art direction in “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.” He also worked in art direction and scenic design for several Disney films, including “Babes in Toyland” in 1961. The company honored him in 1994 by naming him a “Disney legend.” Born in Clovis, N.M., Davis attended UCLA and earned a degree in architecture from USC. On Sunday in Santa Monica.
