Share

The Reference Room at the Orange Coast College library will be named for founding librarian Beth Cosner Brown.

The room will be christened March 30 as part of ongoing celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary and those who helped transform an old military base into one of the county’s busiest campuses. Brown was hired in March 1948 and opened the doors to students in September on the first day of classes.

Brown left the college in 1952 to become district librarian and textbook coordinator for Huntington Beach Union High School District, where she spent 25 years opening libraries at Marina, Edison, Fountain Valley and Ocean View high schools.

She retired in the late 1970s and died in 1992 at age 83.

The March 30 ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the campus, 2701 Fairview Road.
