City Gets Extension in Sewer Inquiry

Share

Unable to meet a Tuesday deadline to submit thousands of pages of documents, city officials have received an extension from federal investigators looking into operation of the city’s sewage treatment system.

Investigators have subpoenaed boxes and boxes of reports, letters and photographs as part of the federal inquiry into last month’s sewer main break, which loosed 86 million gallons of raw sewage into Arroyo Conejo.

“We haven’t turned over any documents to the U. S. attorneys office,” City Atty. Mark Sellers said Tuesday. “We have arranged for a phased production. We hope to get the first phase produced and delivered to the FBI by the end of next week.”

Sellers and City Council members spent the better part of Tuesday meeting with Robert Bonner, the former U. S. attorney and federal drug czar who will represent Thousand Oaks in the federal probe.

By late Tuesday, council members had not yet approved spending $275,000 to retain the attorney.
