FDA Panel Backs Pill That Slows Cancer

Women suffering advanced breast cancer that has spread to other organs may soon be able to take a pill in their quest to slow the incurable disease. Advisors to the Food and Drug Administration recommended that the government approve the drug Xeloda, though they emphasized that the pill’s usefulness is still largely unknown. The FDA panel, in a 10-2 vote, recommended this “accelerated approval” for patients with no treatment alternative.
