L-3 Ocean Systems Wins Navy Sonar Contract

Sylmar-based L-3 Ocean Systems has been awarded a $6.7-million Navy contract to refurbish submarine sonar systems, Rep. Howard Berman (D-Mission Hills) said this week.

The contract calls for L-3 Ocean Systems to replace 20 towed sonar arrays used to detect foreign submarines and surface ships. Funding for the project was included in the 1998 Pentagon budget approved last fall.

“We should do everything possible to preserve the [San Fernando Valley’s] remaining defense industrial base,” Berman said in a statement. “These funds will help.”
