JFK Assassination Jet Leaves Service

The aircraft that flew President John F. Kennedy to Dallas on the day of his assassination and brought his body back to Washington was retired from active service. Special Air Mission 26000, as it was designated by the Air Force, made its last operational flight, carrying Vice President Al Gore to South Carolina. Afterward, a “retirement” ceremony was held at Andrews Air Force Base.
