Plan for Sports Facility to Be Unveiled Today

Share

A proposed 23-acre development that would include a National Hockey League-sized rink and larger Olympic-sized ice skating facility for the Los Angeles Kings and a basketball court for the Los Angeles Lakers will be unveiled before the Planning Commission tonight.

Kearny Real Estate Co., a development company working with the Kings, has proposed building a state-of-the-art training facility on undeveloped land on Nash Street between Grand Avenue and Mariposa Street. The $218-million project would include two hotels and office buildings in addition to locker rooms and office space for both teams. The facility would be open to the public when not in use by the teams.

Developers want to give players a consistent place to practice. The Kings now train at the Iceoplex in the San Fernando Valley while the Lakers split their time between Loyola Marymount University and the Inglewood YMCA.
