* Desktop publishing software company Adobe Systems Inc. reported lower-than-expected fiscal first-quarter profit, citing weak demand in Asia, a slowdown in North America and a decline in sales for Macintosh products. The San Jose-based company reported net income of $22.9 million, or 33 cents per diluted share, compared with $45.4 million, or 61 cents, a year ago.

* Santa Monica-based Cadiz Land Co. reported fourth-quarter loss of $1.2 million, or 4 cents per diluted share, compared with a loss of $1.6 million, or 23 cents, a year ago.

* San Diego-based FPA Medical Management Inc. named Stephen Dresnick president and chief executive, replacing Seth Flam, who is leaving to pursue personal interests.
