Charter Schools

Share

I was pleased to read “Better Teachers, Better Schools” (editorial, March 17), but I am convinced that we need to take the issue one step further. The most effective, proven reform of our schools comes in the form of charter public schools. When it comes to academic standards, only charter public schools are required to produce results or face having their charters pulled. Charter public schools must guarantee in writing to raise student achievement. In exchange, the teachers and principal are granted control of the budget, so they can eliminate bureaucracy and spend more in the classroom.

Better schools come when teachers get to do their primary job: teaching. By not having to wade through the endless rules and regulations of regular public schools, teachers are free to teach and to be innovative in their endeavors.
