Council Agrees to Buy Properties Near LAX
The Los Angeles City Council agreed Friday to spend $12.6 million to acquire properties near Los Angeles International Airport that eventually could be used for the airport expansion.
The properties, at 9300 Bedford Ave. and 5440-5500 W. Century Blvd., are located in areas that are among the noisiest near the airport.
City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter, a critic of the proposed airport expansion, agreed with the airport department that the city should buy the properties. But how they will be used remains under discussion as officials examine the expansion plans.
