The St. Louis Cardinals promoted shortstop Adam Kennedy (Cal State Northridge) to the double-A Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League this week.

Kennedy, the Cardinals’ first-round draft choice in June, was scheduled to make his first start Friday night at home against Shreveport.

Kennedy, batting .261 with no home runs and seven runs batted in at Prince William, will fill in for shortstop Jason Woolf, who is expected to miss at least four weeks because of a broken thumb.
