Oxnard police used pepper spray, a stun gun and a K-9 unit to subdue a man before jailing him on suspicion of assaulting an officer, vandalism and violating a restraining order, authorities said Saturday.

Ruben Marin, 37, of Escondido, was in Ventura County Jail on Saturday night in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Saturday after breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence in the 2900 block of South A Street in Oxnard, police said.

Susie Palomares, 39, called police after an armed Marin broke through a window, police Sgt. Ron Whitney said. Palomares had a restraining order against Marin, police said.

After officers arrived, Marin threatened to slit his throat with a knife, police said.

Police subdued Marin when he refused to drop his knife and approached Officer Enrique Alvarez, Whitney said. Aiding in the arrest was Dino, a K-9 unit partnered with Officer Mike Robison, police said.

Marin suffered a dog bite, minor injuries to his throat when he cut himself during the incident, and minor injuries to his abdomen and a leg when he was struck by the stun gun, police said.
