Rains May Persist Through Wednesday

Rain may continue through midweek and thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasters said.
A storm system over the eastern Pacific will slowly make its way into California, bringing the heaviest rainfall on Tuesday, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times.
“This storm system is known as a ‘cutoff low,’ where it is not in the main jet stream flow,” Sherwin said. “It’s a slow-moving system that will linger for a while before moving out of the area.”
Today’s forecast calls for a 30% chance of rain with variably cloudy skies and afternoon temperatures in the low to mid-70s.
Chatsworth will see a high around 73, with slightly cooler temperatures forecast for Woodland Hills, Van Nuys and Burbank.
The chance of rain increases to 50% through Wednesday morning, Sherwin said.
Morning lows through Wednesday will be in the mid- to upper 50s.
Beginning Thursday, the storm system will be replaced by an area of high pressure, bringing mostly sunny skies and afternoon temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s, Sherwin said.
