$112,000 Set to Establish, Manage Day Laborer Site
- Share via
The City Council has approved $112,000 to establish a day laborer site in West Los Angeles.
The money will be used to lease a site and to contract the services of the Institute of Popular Education of Southern California, a nonprofit organization with prior experience managing day worker sites in Glendale, Pasadena, North Hollywood and San Pedro, said Michael Jimenez, the chief deputy for Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, who represents the area.
Residents and merchants along Pico Boulevard have complained that day workers soliciting jobs along the busy street urinate in public, litter and cause traffic congestion, Jimenez said.
The one-year contract with the institute, which will provide services such as job training and English instruction, must be approved by the city attorney and will expire March 31.
