State Sets Forums on Drinking Water
Residents will have a say on the new state drinking-water protection program at two public meetings Thursday.
The meetings will be at 3 and 7 p.m. at Calleguas Municipal Water District, 2100 Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. Those will be the only workshops in coastal Southern California to discuss the Drinking Water Source Assessment and Protection Program being created by the state Department of Health Services.
The program is designed to identify contaminants that may pollute public drinking-water sources and to shield the water sources from pollution.
By federal law, California is required to develop the program by next February. Along the way, the state is requesting comment at the public forums from environmental, political and medical groups, water utilities, agricultural interests, municipalities and residents.
Other public workshops are scheduled to take place in Pleasanton, Fresno, Redding and Chino.
