Kariya Gets Clearance to Work Out

Mighty Duck left wing Paul Kariya, sidelined for the season’s final 28 games because of post-concussion syndrome, received clearance Monday to begin light workouts.

Kariya, who was cross-checked in the jaw Feb. 1 by Chicago Blackhawk defenseman Gary Suter, was cleared to ride a stationary bike, perform stretching exercises and do some weight lifting.

“He’s been feeling good for about a week,” said team doctor Craig Milhouse, who examined Kariya Friday. “He’s had no headaches or foggy feelings. He’s been sleeping well. We’ll see how he responds.”
