Preston M. Homer; Retired Recreation Supervisor

Preston Morris Homer, a Ventura native and retired recreation supervisor, died Monday after a lengthy illness. He was 59.

Homer was born in Ventura on Sept. 6, 1938. He attended Nordhoff High School in Ojai and graduated in 1957. Homer attended Ventura College in 1959 before transferring to San Jose State, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1962.

Homer worked as a recreation supervisor for the city of Fremont for 15 years. He retired to Ventura in 1983 after spending five years as director of recreation for Douglas County in Minden, Nev.

Homer is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Evans, of Oxnard; a sister, Janet Dubsky, of Oxnard; a son, Todd William Homer, of Rancho Cucamonga; two aunts; three cousins; and a nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Entombment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
