Municipal Judge to Hear Cases at High School on Law Day

In an effort to help students increase their knowledge of the legal system, the Los Angeles Municipal Court will hear traffic cases at Dorsey High School today.

Billed as Law Day, the event is designed to teach students about the relationship between citizens and the justice system and to show that the courts are a vital part of the community, organizers said.

Commissioner Beverly Mosely will hear traffic trials at a “campus courtroom” where police officers and citizens will argue their cases.

“Most people come into contact with the court system through one of two court processes--a small claims case or a traffic ticket,” said Municipal Court Presiding Judge Veronica S. McBeth. “This program will help students learn about a fundamental process that can impact their lives.”

After cases from the court’s regular calendar are heard, a mock traffic trial with students will be staged.
