Bill to Revamp IRS Advances in Senate

A bill to restructure the Internal Revenue Service moved closer to approval as the Senate adopted a plan to finance the ambitious $18.3-billion measure. The bill would allow the IRS commissioner to revamp the agency to serve specific types of taxpayers. It would create a nine-member oversight board with private citizens. It also seeks to protect taxpayers from abusive conduct and more closely review the management and conduct of IRS workers.
