Proposed Budget Has 6 More Police Officers

Share

Anaheim officials have announced a proposed citywide spending plan of nearly $607 million for next fiscal year that includes six new police officers and four Fire Department support staff.

Since 1990-91, the city has added 60 police officers, which brings the sworn force to 400. Officials attribute that and the community policing program to a 35% reduction in serious crime since 1993.

The city’s proposed operating budget of $149.3 million is a 2.6% increase over the current fiscal year. The reasons: cost increases for police and fire labor, the new downtown community center and inspections associated with the Disneyland expansion. General-fund revenues, including hotel bed taxes and sales taxes, also are projected to slightly increase.

Budget presentations are scheduled for June 2 and 9 at 2 p.m. in council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. The council will consider adoption of the budget June 9.
