The beauty guide (about $30) is divided into four sections: learning about and caring for your skin; finding the right perfume; how to choose your best colors; and taming the sun. Each section includes preference questionnaires, personalized advice and practical video demonstrations from beauty experts.
The CD-ROM is formatted for both Windows and Macintosh.
There also is an Internet link to the Elle magazine Web site, which allows users to contact the publication’s journalists online to answer beauty questions.
A print-and-save option allows users to save information for later review.

The baby monitor has grown up.
Now you can watch your entire household from one location with the Keepsafer closed-circuit TV monitoring system. The system can watch up to four areas simultaneously--from the nursery to the playroom to the front door and backyard.
The basic system comes with one camera, but it can be expanded to four. The monitor switches among locations manually or at automatic intervals, and the image can be seen in bright light or dark conditions. A built-in microphone lets you hear what’s going on in any area.
Lightweight cabling with plug-in telephone-type jacks make for easy installation of the system, made by Linear Corp. of Carlsbad.

Mrs. Greenthumbs, garden guru on “Live With Regis and Kathie Lee,” offers her slant on gardening with her latest venture, “Mrs. Greenthumbs Plows Ahead.”
The book ($25, Crown, 201 pages) is full of tips, quips and the gardening philosophy of Mrs. Greenthumbs, a.k.a. Cassandra Danz.
Danz lists five key tips for gardeners: Create the garden as a separate place away from the world; plant perennials and plant them abundantly; use plants that grow easily in your climate and location; have something in bloom throughout the gardening season; and don’t plant magenta next to taxicab yellow.
Danz, a lifelong gardener, has several honors to her credit, including the Quill and Trowel award from the Garden Writer’s Assn. of America. She’s also a comedienne and has appeared on television and in film.
