Volunteers Needed for Community Cleanup

Share

Volunteers will gather at Panorama City Mall on Saturday for the community’s Quarterly Cleanup.

The cleanup, part of a community effort with residents and the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Division, will concentrate on the neighborhoods closest to the mall. Volunteers will sweep, rake and paint out graffiti. The volunteers will also rid the neighborhood of discarded furniture and appliances.

“We found that the city usually won’t pick up large items from neighborhoods with a large number of apartments,” said Leslie Yamashita, a resident and organizer. Usually large-item pickup is limited to single-family dwellings, Yamashita said.

Local businesses have donated five dumpsters and several trucks to haul away rubbish and discarded furniture.

“But we are still looking for volunteers if any one wants to help,” Yamashita said.

Volunteers should meet at the southwest corner of Roscoe Boulevard and Tobias Avenue. For more information, call (818) 756-9485.
