Police to Conduct Seat-Belt Checkpoint
Police plan to conduct a seat-belt checkpoint in the southern portion of Oxnard at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers will check that drivers are buckled up and will hand out educational material about seat-belt use.
Violating the state’s seat-belt law carries a $23 penalty, which doubles with each subsequent conviction.
Drivers with improperly restrained children in their vehicles also will be cited at the scene. Violations of child-restraint seat laws may result in a fine of $271 and a point on the driver’s Department of Motor Vehicles record.
The seat-belt checkpoints are sponsored by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
