Scholarship Awarded in Memory of Deputy

To honor a fallen friend, a half-dozen Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have pitched in for the third year in row to award a scholarship in memory of a fellow deputy, who was gunned down by a prowler near his Pasadena home nearly three years ago.
The $1,000 scholarship--given in memory of Deputy Antranik Geuvjehizian--was presented to Mary Star of the Sea High School honor student Steven Mondragon, who plans to use the funds for his studies at Cal State Long Beach.
Known among his friends as “G-12” for the number of letters in his last name, Geuvjehizian--who worked as one of the bailiffs during the O.J. Simpson trial--was shot to death July 18, 1995 when he confronted a prowler in his neighbor’s yard.
