Jury Proceedings Begin in Murder Trial of Mother

Jury proceedings began Monday in the case of a Rancho Palos Verdes woman accused of murdering her 4-year-old daughter when the two plunged from a 10th-floor hotel window.
About 120 jurors were summoned to Torrance Superior Court--more than three times the number of prospective jurors normally called for a case, court officials said. Court Clerk Rob Fitting said the extended length of the trial--an estimated three weeks--required the court to summon more prospective jurors. He said jury selection should be completed by the end of the week.
Last spring, Roya Dalili and her daughter, Natalie, jumped out of a 10th-floor window of the Torrance Marriott Hotel. The girl was killed. Dalili suffered a fractured pelvis and other severe injuries. Dalili has pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder.
