Coastal Program Policies to Be Discussed at Meeting

The Los Angeles City Planning Department will hold a public workshop tonight to field questions about preparation of a state-mandated Local Coastal Program for Venice.
Policies covering coastal development, natural resources, beach access, parking and zoning restrictions for the area east of Lincoln Boulevard between Dewey Street on the north and Washington Street on the south will be discussed at the session, said Merryl Edelstein, senior planner for the city.
The city has enforced regional guidelines recommended by the California Coastal Act since its enactment in 1976, and has tried sporadically since then to complete a Local Coastal Plan for Venice, as was mandated by that legislation.
Edelstein said she hopes the coastal plan will be formalized by the end of the next fiscal year in June 1999.
The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westchester Municipal Building, 7166 W. Manchester Ave.
